Stucco Repairs

Stucco in good repair is critical in all structures. The wood can become fragile as it absorbs dirt, water and many other chemicals that affect its strength. A small crack, over time, will grow bigger and as the gap gets larger, more water and dirt are prone to sneak in. Your wood or block will absorb chemicals and moisture causing rot or mildew. This can happen easily because just enough air is getting in and not enough getting out. Do not delay your stucco repairs. We can assist you no matter how small or large the project is. We will get your repair complete with great care and attention.

Parging

Parging is an economical and easy-to-apply solution for covering unattractive masonry surfaces. It can cover cracks and water damage, or even holes and voids. The mortar may also help to seal small air leaks in a concrete wall, which may lead to a slight improvement in energy efficiency. Parged walls can even be painted to complement the surrounding surfaces.

Paper and Wire

Abaco Plastering & Stucco’s applications are always completed with high standards and high quality products. A lath of an asphalt-infused paper with furred chicken wire is laid down over a weather-resistant barrier. Next comes the scratch coat, which is a layer of field-mixed Portland cement, sand, lime, and water with a series of horizontal lines scratched into it. Then comes the brown coat. This layer is applied with a darby, or long trowel, to make sure the cement is applied evenly.

EIFS System

A multi-layered wall that provides exceptional energy efficiency and moisture control, exterior insulation finish systems (EIFS) have quickly become a preferred choice of commercial and residential projects. Less susceptible to cracking than traditional stucco, EIFS will give your property a clean, distinctive appearance that stands the test of time.

Why Use EIFS?

  • Enhanced waterproofing and drainage capabilities when compared to conventional stucco
  • Less likely to crack
  • Superior energy efficiency
  • Greater design versatility with a vast range of colours, textures, finishes, shapes, curves and details possible

EIFS Process

  • The EIFS process generally involves the following:
  • Insulation board secured to exterior wall surface with adhesive or mechanical attachment
  • A water-resistant base coat applied over the insulation
  • Base coat is reinforced with fiber glass mesh for added strength
  • Durable finish coat, that is both colourfast and crack resistant.

Conventional Stucco

Conventional stucco siding can create a visually appealing exterior. It is made from a combination of limestone, sand, water and Portland cement, and is applied on top of a wire framework or metal screening like chicken wire. One of the biggest advantages of conventional stucco siding is that it is a long term investment. It is durable and strong, and can last for a very long time. Another major advantage is its strength and it is fire proof. Conventional stucco has the added benefit of offering good heat insulation, keeping homes cool when located in hot climates.

Smooth Acrylic Finish

Acrylic stucco is a synthetic product made of co-polymer resin. It uses sand or other aggregate to achieve the look of cement stucco. It is resistant to water, cracks, and is colour fast. It allows the application for a very smooth finish which creates a very elegant look. A smooth finish is the easiest to clean and is very customizable due to the fact that different colors can be added to get a “mottled look”.

Textured Acrylic Finish

Acrylic stucco is a synthetic product made of co-polymer resin. It uses sand or other aggregate to achieve the look of cement stucco. It is resistant to water, cracks, and is colour fast. It allows the application for a textured finish which creates an attractive look. Textured stucco comes in numerous varieties of different stucco textures. Starting with a heavy texture stucco such as a Spanish heavy lace to a light sand textured stucco, we can enhance the look and value of your home.
